“The only thing a person can ever really do is keep moving forward. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future.”― Alyson Noel, The Immortals Boxed Set
The past contains my history
The good and the bad
Memories long ago buried
And that peeps out from time to time
Some to painful
They appear to be forgotten
But when situations arise
Anger uncontrollable anger
Seemingly from nowhere gushes out
Filling up inside me until the dam breaks
And then I do something I never wanted to do.
There is a place for memories
But it is not to be held unto so tightly
That I become so enmeshed in it
That I forget to live life in the present
Or become so bitter over it
I refuse to enjoy my today
Spoiling my now and tomorrow
God says in Isaiah 43:18-19
To Forget the old things
And not to dwell on the past
Because He is doing a new thing
Springing up in our very lives.
Yet we often do not perceive it.
Even good memories can be stumbling blocks
Stopping me from achieving new goals
Scaling new and higher heights
And accomplishing greater things
Because I am so enamoured with my past successes
I forget that there is more
So today, I choose to think more about the future.
Work diligently in the present, preparing for tomorrow.
While gleaning from the lessons of yesterday
Without crying over spilt milk.
