Rest is essential now more than ever, as we live in a world that constantly seems to be on the move. It is so easy to be swept up in the ever cascading waves. That we lose the essence of who we are and why we do what we do. There is a need for us to appreciate rest and to embrace it. But sadly, there are a lot of misconceptions about what rest is. Hence the reason why we need to know why rest is essential.
It Provides Relieve from stress
Society today seems to thrive on busyness. Often at the expense of our health, wellbeing and time spent with ourselves and loved ones. We always seem to be in a rush. So we get up in the mornings and scramble to get ready, and then we are off like the Hare in a race. We live life like it’s a sprint, and the fastest wins. But life is more like a Marathon. There are times when we need to speed up and times to slow down and catch our breath.
We often run too fast through life and are too worn out by the end of the day. Tiredness soon becomes a word that we use to describe how we feel. Day in day out, we push our bodies beyond the limit. Rest is something we would like but are too busy to take. The result is that our bodies soon give out from all the stress it has carried.
Yet getting rest is the very thing we need. Rest gives our bodies time to recalibrate and heal.
It gives you fresh perspective
Another benefit of resting is that it offers you a fresh perspective on issues and circumstances. Often when we are in the middle of our busy schedules and tasks, we can become too focused that we lose track of what’s going on around us or even within us.
Taking time to rest gives our body not only a chance to catch up but gives us time to sit still and ponder anew what is going on in our lives and the world around us. Sometimes taking time away from our busy schedules and tasks and going to a place of solitude opens our eyes to new ways of thinking that could very well be the answer we have been searching for in all the activities and tasks.
It Gives you time with loved ones
Spending time with loved ones is an essential part of our being. We are social creatures that thrive and grow on the bonds of family and friendships. Yet if we are honest, life can get too busy that we become disconnected from one of the sources of strength and vitality. Taking time to rest is not only essential it gives us the chance to reconnect and spend time with the ones we love.
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”― John Lubbock, The Use Of Life
